Day 2: Corn and clouds.

I drove 923 miles today. Holy crap.

Google estimated this distance would take me 13 hours and 21 minutes. I did it in a bit closer to 13 (including stops). Damn. Google thinks that if I drove 16 hours tomorrow I could make it to Portland. Part of me wants to go for it. ; )

The most frustrating part about this blog-as-I-go-thing is that I think of all kinds of wonderful stuff I want to write while I'm driving. But here I am, 11:30 pm in Laramie, Wyoming, and I think it would be best to just go to sleep. Especially since I slept through my alarms this morning until my body had accrued its requisite 7 hours (I only had about 5 hours of sleep the night before. That did not cut it).

Driving today was surprisingly easy. I think a lot of it had to do with the wide expanses and vast stretches of road with . . . nothing. Absolutely nothing but corn, sky, cattle and clouds. I guess there was the occasional (and weird) consumer center or two, but after Kansas City, there really wasn't much of anything. And it was beautiful.

I also began, and finished, the audio version of Miranda July's No one belongs here more than you. I blazed through all 5 discs, one after another. It's so good; I can't believe it. I mean, I have loved July for a while, but that was mostly based on her movie Me and You and Everyone We Know plus a few shorts and projects (Learning to Love You More comes to mind) and other info gleaned from her website. I had kicked myself for not getting Nobhmty. before now, but today, I realized, was perfect timing. No more kicks.

And, while I was unable to take many pictures yesterday (because my half-gig flash card only thought it could hold 18 images until I reformatted it last night), I took a whole heck of a lot today. I'll post them on Flickr soon. I have to sift through all the hit or miss pictures of corn fields first. I know. It was something to do.

But until then, I leave you with this. My day begun in rainy St. Louis, and ended with this magnificent sunset. And, is it just me, or is this not Kool-Aid Man?!

Oh, yeah!!!
